Dolphin watching in the Catalan region, in the Lacaze-Duthiers underwater canyon, in French territorial waters.

Departure is from Cadaqués, in small groups (10 passengers max).

A more intimate, softer approach, in consciousness, share the experience!

Take a moment to browse our site "Mission & Team and "Our actions it will help you understand who we are and why our observations are important and exciting.

From Cadaqués, Costa BravaOn the Lacaze-Duthiers canyon in French territorial waters, we encounter cetaceans, dolphins, but also, more rarely, fin whales, sperm whales, pilot whales, Risso's dolphins, common bottlenose dolphins, striped dolphins, beaked whales and minke whales, among others...

From May to November, we go out every day at 8.30am from Cadaqués, and the trip lasts around 3 hours.

The experience we offer you in Cadaqués is uniqueOur association under the 1901 law, recognised as being of general interest for its scientific research on cetaceans and its environmental actions in the marine environment, has enabled us to develop our respectful approach techniques.

During our cetacean-watching trips, we systematically observe total silence on board the boat throughout the trip.

So we are totally connected to nature and the animals feel it. Cetaceans are constantly communicating in different ways, and are extremely sensitive to what we say as individuals and as a group. Nver decades of research into interspecies communication has shown that the cetaceans approached much more easily a boat whose passengers were in silence, in conscience.

We have decided to apply this technique to the cetacean-watching outings that we offer you and to our own whale-watching trips. we're asking you to play the game completely, we're offering you a cetacean outing authentic, in touch with nature.

The skipper, like you, will remain silent throughout the trip, allowing him to concentrate a thousand times more on finding the animals and therefore being much more effective in finding the cetaceans.

Information about our research area and the animals that inhabit it will be provided to you when you book, in the form of a file that will be downloaded automatically, so you'll have all the information you need to enjoy the outing.

So don't expect a captain/guide to explain in great detail where the fish pees. That's not what we're offering.

We do not guarantee the presence of animals during our outings, it is impossible. Of course we do everything we can to find them, but if you think you cannot remain silent for 3 hours or manage your frustration in case we don't see any, so it's best not to accompany us on our mission, thank you for your understanding.

A spacious and comfortable boat so that the 10 passengers (maximum) can closely observe the animals.

The Shelltone Whale Project has implemented a cetacean approach protocol, which is applied on each sea trip among sperm whales, fin whales, pilot whales, Risso's dolphins, bottlenose dolphins, striped dolphins, beaked whales and minke whales.

Our observation protocol is governed by simple principles:

  • Our daily sea trips, to conduct our research, have allowed us to establish a climate of trust with cetaceans, who alone decide whether to interact with humans, in a calm, serene atmosphere.

  • On each trip, we use our hydrophone (underwater microphone) and we decipher the sounds heard in the sea, whale songs, sperm whale codas, dolphin whistles and pilot whales in the Lacaze Duthiers underwater canyon. These sounds, heard live, allow us to decide on the orientation of the boat to give us the best chance to observe the animals.

  • A unique experience, a scientific, ecological and educational approach, based on the principles of non-intrusion and mutual respect for dolphins, sperm whales and whales off the coast of Catalonia.
