The Hawaiian island chain is one of the world's most important habitats for North Pacific humpback whales, and Maui offers some of the best whale-watching in Hawaii.
Hawaii is the only place in the USA where humpback whales breed, calve and nurse their young, and Hawaii is the best place to observe this phenomenon.
Scientists estimate that two-thirds of the total North Pacific population (some 4,000 to 5,000 whales) migrate each winter to Hawaiian waters, where boats like ours carefully navigate among them to offer unparalleled whale-watching excursions.
