From our base in Nice, you'll be sailing in the waters of the Pelagos sanctuary, a major breeding ground for cetaceans in the Mediterranean. The sanctuary is home to the largest number of sperm whales in the Mediterranean, as well as several species of dolphin, and the sailing conditions are sometimes exceptional.
The Shelltone Whale Project's cetacean-watching charter is fully respected.

In the heart of the splendid Côte d'Azur, this base invites you to an exceptional adventure: whale watching in Nice.

Dive into the Pelagos marine sanctuary, a haven for whales, dolphins, sperm whales and many other marine species, and enjoy an unforgettable experience in a small group.

Description of the activity

Departure at 9am, return at 2pm for a 5-hour outing. Except on Sundays, departure at 2.00 pm.

Age: no minimum age

Capacity: 8 people maximum

Species to watch: whales, dolphins, sperm whales, etc!

Additional information:

Departure is from the tb02 harbour square opposite the harbour master's office at Beaulieu sur mer.
Their unique approach allows you to experience these special moments in small groups.

The crew of the base we have selected in Nice welcome you on board to share their passion and experience.

This base does not guarantee the presence of animals during their outings, it's impossible. Of course they'll do everything they can to find them, but if you think you can't handle your frustration if you don't see any, then it's best not to accompany them on their mission.

They are setting up a geo-referenced and acoustic database of all cetaceans encountered in the Pelagos Sanctuary off Nice. Your participation in their outings at sea helps to finance their research. They only take on board people in a good mood.

When are cetaceans seen in Nice?

All year round, off Nice, in the heart of the Pelagos marine mammal sanctuary, we meet 'resident' cetaceans, whales, dolphins, sperm whales and pilot whales, among others, as there are around ten species of cetacean living in the Pelagos sanctuary where we work.

From what age do we accept children?

Our sailing experience, our knowledge of the environment in which we sail and the type of boat we use, among other things, have led us to decide not to take children under the age of 3 on board, for the good of the child, the parents and the other passengers. Thank you for your understanding.

What happens if the outing is cancelled due to bad weather?

There is no need to contact us to ask whether the outing will be held due to bad weather. If we have to cancel, rest assured, you will be the first to be informed. If we have to cancel the outing because of bad weather, either the outing will be postponed to a date of your choice, or you will be refunded the full amount of your payment, at your convenience.
Can I cancel my outing?

Yes, I can cancel my outing at any time by notifying us by e-mail. A cancellation fee of 2% of the total amount will be deducted from the amount refunded.

However, this cancellation is no longer possible from 72 hours before the departure time of the expedition, except on presentation of a medical certificate issued by a doctor for the person cancelling the booking or in the event of force majeure, accident or other. Traffic jams are not a cause of force majeure.
What should we take with us and what should we wear during the excursion?

Use lycra-type clothing to protect you from the sun, or biodegradable sun cream.

Take a swimming costume and a towel, we sometimes swim on the way back.

A sailboat is a boat that moves more than a zodiac or ferry, if you have the slightest doubt take Dramamine or Mercalm 20 min before getting on board, Confused ginger works great too. It can save your day 🙂

A cool box is on board with simple drinks (fresh and sparkling water, coffee, tea), after the meal you bring.

The ship is entirely non-smoking, and a waterproof bag and portable ashtray are available for smoking on the shore.
