The Madeira archipelago is a great destination for cetacean watching, being both close to Europe and lucky enough to be on the migration route of various whales. More than 28 species of cetacean have been recorded here. They can be seen every month of the year, with a peak in numbers from April to September.
Dolphins, sperm whales and pilot whales are the most common sightings all year round.
From March to April and September to October, you can see humpback whales taking a break from their migrations. The base we have referenced is respectful of the animals and practises responsible whale watching. Marine biologists are on board each boat for every trip and comment on the sightings.

Rota dos Cetáceos is a company dedicated to dolphin and whale watching on Madeira Island. All our whale watching tours are accompanied by our team of marine biologists. Before each excursion you will be given a short introduction to learn more about these majestic creatures, before the adventure begins!
We have observers on land who guide us to the animals aboard boats specially equipped for observing wild dolphins and whales. You can also swim with the dolphins - an unforgettable experience!
On our excursions, you can observe a wide variety of dolphins, whales and turtles in the Madeira Island sea.
Excursions are made aboard three semi-rigid speedboats.
