Nice offers one of the most remarkable gateways to the world of cetaceans in the Mediterranean. Just a few miles from the French Riviera, the seafloor drops quickly into deep waters, creating favorable conditions for a particularly rich marine life.

These waters are part of the Pelagos Sanctuary, a vast marine protected area dedicated to the preservation of marine mammals in the Mediterranean. Sperm whales, striped dolphins, bottlenose dolphins, Risso’s dolphins, and other species regularly inhabit this region, which is one of the most important areas in the Mediterranean for cetacean observation.

We chose to feature this base for the quality of the experience it offers and for the opportunity it provides to discover a lesser-known face of the Mediterranean. Far from the seaside image usually associated with the French Riviera, these excursions help visitors better understand the richness of the living world that exists offshore.
