Join the Shelltone Whale Project Research Team at sea.

These outings are conducted directly by the Shelltone Whale Project Research Team as part of our fieldwork in the waters surrounding the Lacaze-Duthiers Canyon.

Limited to a maximum of 10 participants, each trip offers the opportunity to accompany our team at sea as we search for and observe cetaceans while continuing to study, test and refine respectful, non-intrusive approaches.

For two and a half hours, we leave Cadaqués and head toward the canyon, looking for signs of marine life along the way: seabirds, surface movements, changes in water color, fins, blows or leaps.

Every outing is different. The sea changes, the animals move, and sightings are never guaranteed. What we do guarantee is that every decision at sea is guided by the behavior of the animals we encounter.

Participants are invited to take an active part in spotting dolphins, whales and other marine wildlife. Observation begins long before an animal is approached: a distant fin, a flock of birds or an unusual movement at the surface can be the first sign of its presence.

When cetaceans are encountered, the Research Team determines whether an approach is appropriate and how it should be conducted. Sometimes, the most respectful decision is not to approach at all.

These are not conventional whale-watching trips. They are field outings with the Shelltone Whale Project Research Team, open to a small number of participants who wish to experience how respectful cetacean observation is developed and practiced at sea.
