The Shelltone Team’s Review

Península Valdés is one of the world’s great natural sanctuaries for southern right whales. Each year, females return to the calm waters of Patagonia’s sheltered gulfs to give birth and raise their calves before heading back toward the open ocean. This region is one of the most important breeding grounds for the species.

Throughout the season, encounters between mothers and their young offer moments of rare intensity, while sea lions, elephant seals, penguins, and many seabirds add to the extraordinary richness of this World Heritage ecosystem.

We selected this team for the quality of the experience they provide and their deep knowledge of this unique region of Patagonia. Each trip offers visitors a deeper understanding of the southern right whale’s life cycle and the importance of preserving the conditions that make this essential stage of its existence possible.

Beyond whale watching, these outings invite visitors to discover a place where life begins again each year. A destination that reminds us that even the greatest journeys begin with a place to be born and grow in safety.

What We Particularly Appreciate Here

The privilege of observing the first months of life of southern right whale calves in one of their most important breeding grounds. A destination that reminds us that protecting places of birth also means protecting the future of a species.
