The Shelltone Team’s Review

Located in the heart of the North Atlantic, Madeira occupies a privileged position along the routes followed by many cetacean species. This exceptional location has made the archipelago one of Europe’s richest destinations for observing marine life.

More than twenty-eight cetacean species have been recorded in these waters. Sperm whales, pilot whales, and several dolphin species can be observed throughout the year, while migrating whales—including humpback whales—stop in Madeira’s waters during their seasonal journeys.

We selected this team for their respectful approach and the quality of the experience they provide on the water. Every trip is led by marine biologists who share their knowledge of the animals encountered, their behavior, and the natural processes that explain their presence around the archipelago.

Beyond encounters with cetaceans, these excursions offer the opportunity to discover a place where resident species and great ocean travelers meet throughout the seasons. An experience that reveals Madeira’s unique role as one of the Atlantic’s great natural crossroads.

What We Particularly Appreciate Here

The meeting between species that live here year-round and those that are only passing through. A destination that reminds us that some places play an essential role by connecting the great pathways of the living world.
