The Shelltone Team’s Review

Off the coast of Lanzarote, the Atlantic Ocean is home to several species of whales and dolphins that inhabit these Canary Island waters throughout the year. Bottlenose dolphins, common dolphins, Risso’s dolphins, and Bryde’s whales are among the species regularly encountered in this remarkably rich marine environment.

We selected this team for their original approach, built around quiet navigation and respect for the marine environment. Aboard a fully electric catamaran, their trips minimize noise and disturbance, offering a different way to experience and connect with marine wildlife.

Accompanied by an experienced crew, visitors discover not only the cetaceans themselves, but also the essential role that sound plays in their world. In an ocean where acoustic communication is fundamental, silence becomes a form of respect in its own right.

Beyond encounters with whales and dolphins, these excursions invite us to reflect on the way our own presence influences the living world. An experience that reminds us that sometimes the first step toward better observation is simply making less noise.

What it means to be “Shelltone selected”

Every operator featured here has been selected because it complies with the Shelltone Charter.

Cetaceans are never approached at more than 5 knots.
Animals are always approached from an angle that follows their direction of travel, never by cutting across them.
Mothers with calves are never approached.

These principles form the foundation of the Shelltone Charter. Our selection also considers the overall attitude of the operator, the quality of the guidance provided, and the ability to recognize when choosing not to approach is the most respectful decision.

These are not recommendations. They are the conditions under which every Shelltone Selected Operator is chosen.

What We Particularly Appreciate Here

Choosing silence as a way to encounter cetaceans. A destination that reminds us that respect is expressed not only through our actions, but also through the sounds we choose not to make.
