A lo largo de las \u00faltimas d\u00e9cadas, nuestra investigaci\u00f3n y nuestra experiencia sobre el terreno nos han llevado a una conclusi\u00f3n sencilla: cuanto m\u00e1s respeta un enfoque a los cet\u00e1ceos, mayores son las posibilidades de que se produzca un encuentro significativo.<\/p>\n

De este principio surgi\u00f3 la Carta del Enfoque Shelltone Whale Project.<\/p>\n

Esta carta define las pr\u00e1cticas que consideramos respetuosas con el bienestar animal y constituye uno de los criterios que utilizamos a la hora de seleccionar a los operadores que aparecen en nuestra p\u00e1gina web.<\/p>\n

Normas que hay que respetar:<\/h1> <\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n

\n
1 \u2013<\/strong>\u00a0La aproximaci\u00f3n a los cet\u00e1ceos debe realizarse a una velocidad que no supere los 5 nudos y en un \u00e1ngulo de aproximadamente 30\u00b0 respecto a la direcci\u00f3n en la que se desplazan los animales. La embarcaci\u00f3n no debe acercarse a los mam\u00edferos marinos a menos de 100 metros y debe alejarse inmediatamente si se observa cualquier cambio en la actitud, la velocidad o el comportamiento de los animales.

2 \u2013<\/strong>\u00a0La embarcaci\u00f3n nunca debe acercarse a los cet\u00e1ceos por delante, por detr\u00e1s ni en \u00e1ngulo perpendicular a su direcci\u00f3n de desplazamiento. No debe bloquear el paso a los animales, atravesar un grupo ni separar a individuos del grupo. La aproximaci\u00f3n debe ser lenta y suave, y la embarcaci\u00f3n debe navegar en paralelo al grupo que se est\u00e1 observando.

3 \u2013<\/strong>\u00a0Queda prohibido el uso de equipos de sonar o de tipo \u2019sonda de pesca\u00bb para localizar a los animales, ya que estos dispositivos emiten frecuencias que pueden interferir en la comunicaci\u00f3n entre ellos. Durante el periodo de observaci\u00f3n, la embarcaci\u00f3n debe mantener una velocidad constante y navegar en paralelo a la direcci\u00f3n de desplazamiento de los animales. La embarcaci\u00f3n no debe navegar nunca a una velocidad superior a la del animal m\u00e1s lento del grupo.

4 \u2013<\/strong>\u00a0Si una ballena se acerca a la embarcaci\u00f3n o aparece de repente a menos de 60 metros de ella, hay que poner el motor en punto muerto. Cuando haya delfines cerca, la embarcaci\u00f3n puede mantener una velocidad lenta y constante.

5 \u2013<\/strong>\u00a0Est\u00e1 prohibido acercarse u observar a un \u201cgrupo de cr\u00eda\u201d, es decir, un grupo de terneros o animales j\u00f3venes acompa\u00f1ados \u00fanicamente por unos pocos adultos.

6 \u2013<\/strong>\u00a0Est\u00e1 prohibido perseguir a los cet\u00e1ceos mientras cazan o se alimentan.

7 \u2013<\/strong>\u00a0Queda prohibido perturbar a los grupos tensioactivos durante el comportamiento de apareamiento.

8 \u2013<\/strong>\u00a0La observaci\u00f3n del mismo grupo de cet\u00e1ceos no debe superar los 45 minutos.

9 \u2013<\/strong>\u00a0Durante el periodo de observaci\u00f3n deben evitarse los cambios bruscos de direcci\u00f3n o de velocidad. Es m\u00e1s probable que los animales se mantengan tranquilos cuando la embarcaci\u00f3n mantiene una velocidad constante.

  1. Distancia m\u00ednima de 100 metros:<\/strong> No entres nunca en esta zona para no estresar a los animales ni alterar su comportamiento natural.<\/li>\n
  2. No te entretengas ni insistas en el tema:<\/strong> No te quedes merodeando cerca de los cet\u00e1ceos con la esperanza de que se acerquen a ti. Deja que los animales decidan libremente la distancia que desean mantener.<\/li>\n

    Our approach charter<\/h1>\n

    Over the decades, our research and field experience have led us to a simple conclusion: the more an approach respects cetaceans, the greater the opportunity for a meaningful encounter.<\/p>

    It is from this principle that the Shelltone Whale Project Approach Charter was born.<\/p>

    This charter defines the practices we consider respectful of animal welfare and serves as one of the criteria we use when selecting the operators featured on our website.<\/p>

    Rules to follow:<\/h1>\n1 \u2013<\/strong>\u00a0Cetaceans must be approached at a speed not exceeding 5 knots and at an angle of approximately 30\u00b0 in the direction in which the animals are travelling. The vessel must not approach marine mammals within less than 100 metres and must move away immediately if any change in the animals\u2019 attitude, speed or behaviour is observed.

    2 \u2013<\/strong>\u00a0The vessel must never approach cetaceans from the front, from behind or perpendicular to their direction of travel. It must not block the animals\u2019 path, pass through a group or separate individuals from the group. The approach must be slow and gentle, with the vessel travelling parallel to the group being observed.

    3 \u2013<\/strong>\u00a0The use of sonar or fish-finder-type equipment to locate the animals is prohibited, as these devices emit frequencies that can interfere with communication between the animals. During the observation period, the vessel must maintain a constant speed and travel parallel to the animals\u2019 direction of movement. The vessel must never travel faster than the slowest animal in the group.

    4 \u2013<\/strong>\u00a0If a whale approaches the vessel or suddenly appears within 60 metres of it, the engine must be placed in neutral. When dolphins are present, the vessel may maintain a slow and constant speed.

    5 \u2013<\/strong>\u00a0Approaching or observing a \u201cnursery group\u201d, meaning a group of calves or juveniles accompanied by only a few adults, is prohibited.

    6 \u2013<\/strong>\u00a0Pursuing cetaceans while they are hunting or feeding is prohibited.

    7 \u2013<\/strong>\u00a0Disturbing surface-active groups during mating behaviour is prohibited.

    8 \u2013<\/strong>\u00a0Observation of the same group of cetaceans must not exceed 45 minutes.

    9 \u2013<\/strong>\u00a0Sudden changes in direction or speed must be avoided during the observation period. The animals are more likely to remain calm when the vessel maintains a constant speed.

    The Foundations of a Respectful Approach<\/h1>\n

    This diagram illustrates the basic rules for a respectful approach to cetaceans.<\/p>

    1. Minimum distance of 100 meters:<\/strong> Never enter this area to avoid stressing the animals or disrupting their natural behavior.<\/li>
    2. Do not linger or press the issue:<\/strong> Do not hover around cetaceans in the hope that they will approach you. Let the animals freely decide the distance they wish to maintain.<\/li>
