Our cetacean-watching outings are open to the public, as we regularly organize \u00abwhale watching\u00bb outings on Guadeloupe's leeward coast.<\/p>\n<p>All year round, in Guadeloupe, we see magnificent animals, year-round residents, sperm whales (which are whales), spotted dolphins, Steno dolphins, bottlenose dolphins and Fraser's dolphins. We also encounter pilot whales, pseudo-orcas, beaked whales and even the occasional orca, among others, as there are over 20 species of marine mammals living in the Agoa sanctuary where we work, on the leeward coast of Guadeloupe. The humpback whale is present here from December to the end of May.<\/p>\n<p>During our whale watching outings in Guadeloupe, we use the same techniques and protocol to observe cetaceans as during our scientific outings. We use our hydrophone, an underwater microphone, which enables us to locate the cetaceans and also to determine their attitude at the time of listening. Our ethological knowledge (study of animal behavior) of Guadeloupe's cetaceans enables us to decide whether or not we can approach them. Like all mammals, cetaceans have various activities during the day, which are more or less conducive to observation and approach. They may be hunting, for example, in which case we don't approach them, so as not to disrupt their hunt. At this precise moment, they use their echo-location to pinpoint their prey, and they communicate with each other to coordinate the hunt. We then stay out of their way, preferring to steer the boat towards another group more likely to want to share a moment with us, for example, during socialization after the hunt, when they are relaxed and love to come and play with the bow of our boat. This protocol applies to all the cetaceans we observe in Guadeloupe.<\/p>\n<p>We have all been trained by the French marine protected areas in a responsible approach to the cetaceans of Guadeloupe that inhabit the territory where we work, the French West Indies Agoa Marine Mammal Sanctuary. What's more, our experience and our scientific approach have led us to go even further than this protocol to make it even more respectful of cetaceans, and we have created our own charter for approaching and observing the cetaceans of Guadeloupe, the Shelltone Whale Project charter. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shelltonewhaleproject.org\/en\/our-charter\/\">RESPECT<\/a> Whale Watching in Guadeloupe: to guarantee the most respectful whale watching in Guadeloupe, our role is above all to protect these animals. This technique, while respecting them, enables us to create a shared empathy with them, who are very sensitive to our conscientious approach and return the favor by approaching our boat without fear whenever they have the opportunity. This allows our guests to fully enjoy their presence in a serene and relaxed atmosphere.<\/p>\n<h2><b>The different species of cetaceans observed by Shelltone Whale Project in Guadeloupe :<\/b><\/h2>\n<h3>23 cetacean species have been recorded in Guadeloupe, classified into three categories.<\/h3>\n<p><strong>1 - Migratory birds<\/strong> <br>Only one species is considered migratory: the humpback whale, which comes to the warm waters of the Caribbean from January to May to have its babies, then heads north to Canada, Iceland or Norway from June to December to feed on protein-rich beaked whales, minke whales, Bryde's whales, St\u00e9no prostrate whales and Peponocephalus whales, among others, are all species that have hitherto been considered to evolve randomly in the Antilles, and can be observed at any time on the leeward coast of Guadeloupe. Even if it is still difficult to predict their arrival, our observations over the last ten years have revealed a seasonal pattern for certain species in our waters.<\/p>\n<h2>Beaked whale<\/h2> Residents<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>These are the species that do not leave their island throughout the year.In Guadeloupe, we have 4 resident cetacean species: <br>Three in Basse Terre, pan-tropical spotted dolphins, around 100 individuals divided into two families. We also have Fraser's dolphins, around 50 individuals, and sperm whales, around 100 individuals divided into several families of 5 to 12 individuals. <br>One in Grande Terre, between the Petite Terre marine reserve and Les Saintes, the common bottlenose dolphin, or Tursiop Truncatus, estimated at around 35 individuals, sometimes comes to Basse Terre, near Baille Argent, to hunt balaou in March or Nos sorties d\u2019observation des c\u00e9tac\u00e9s sont accessibles au public, puisque nous organisons r\u00e9guli\u00e8rement des sorties \u00ab\u00a0whale watching\u00a0\u00bb ou observation de c\u00e9tac\u00e9s touristique sur la c\u00f4te sous le vent de Guadeloupe.<\/p> <p>Toute l\u2019ann\u00e9e, en Guadeloupe, nous voyons des animaux magnifiques, r\u00e9sidents \u00e0 l\u2019ann\u00e9e, des\u00a0 cachalots (qui sont des baleines), des dauphins tachet\u00e9s, des dauphins Steno, des grands dauphins et des dauphins de Fraser. Nous rencontrons aussi des baleines pilotes, des pseudo orques, des baleines \u00e0 bec et m\u00eame parfois des orques, entre autres car il y a plus de 20 esp\u00e8ces de mammif\u00e8res marins qui vivent dans le sanctuaire Agoa o\u00f9 nous travaillons, c\u00f4te sous le vent de Guadeloupe. La baleine \u00e0 bosse est pr\u00e9sente chez nous de d\u00e9cembre \u00e0 fin mai.<\/p> <p>Lors des sorties whale watching ou observation des c\u00e9tac\u00e9s de Guadeloupe que nous proposons, nous utilisons pour observer les c\u00e9tac\u00e9s les m\u00eames techniques et le m\u00eame protocole que lors de nos sorties scientifiques. Nous utilisons notre hydrophone, c\u2019est un microphone sous marin, qui nous permet de localiser les c\u00e9tac\u00e9s et aussi de d\u00e9terminer leur attitude au moment de l\u2019\u00e9coute. Notre connaissance \u00e9thologique ( \u00e9tude du comportement animal ) des c\u00e9tac\u00e9s de Guadeloupe nous permet de d\u00e9cider si oui ou non nous pouvons les approcher. Comme tous les mammif\u00e8res, les c\u00e9tac\u00e9s ont dans une journ\u00e9e de diverses activit\u00e9s, plus ou moins propices \u00e0 l\u2019observation et l\u2019approche. Ils peuvent \u00eatre, par exemple\u00a0, entrain de chasser, dans ce cas nous ne les approchons pas, afin de ne par perturber leur chasse, car \u00e0 ce moment pr\u00e9cis, ils utilisent leur \u00e9cho localisation pour cerner leurs proies et ils communiquent entre eux pour coordonner la chasse. Nous restons alors \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9cart, nous pr\u00e9f\u00e9rons diriger le bateau vers un autre groupe plus \u00e0 m\u00eame a avoir envie de partager un moment avec nous, par exemple, lors de la socialisation, apr\u00e8s la chasse, ils sont d\u00e9tendus et adorent venir \u00e0 notre rencontre pour jouer avec l\u2019\u00e9trave de notre bateau. Ce protocole s\u2019applique \u00e0 l\u2019ensemble des c\u00e9tac\u00e9s dont nous pratiquons l\u2019observation en Guadeloupe.<\/p> <p>Nous avons tous \u00e9t\u00e9 form\u00e9s par les aires marines prot\u00e9g\u00e9es fran\u00e7aises \u00e0 une approche responsable des c\u00e9tac\u00e9s de Guadeloupe qui peuplent le territoire o\u00f9 nous travaillons, le Sanctuaire des mammif\u00e8res marins des Antilles Fran\u00e7aises Agoa. De plus notre exp\u00e9rience et notre approche scientifique nous a conduit a aller m\u00eame au del\u00e0 de ce protocole pour le rendre encore plus respectueux des c\u00e9tac\u00e9s, nous avons cr\u00e9\u00e9 notre propre charte d\u2019approche et d\u2019observation des c\u00e9tac\u00e9s de Guadeloupe, la charte Shelltone Whale Project <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shelltonewhaleproject.org\/notre-charte\/\">RESPECT<\/a> : afin de garantir un whale watching ou observation des dauphins et baleines en Guadeloupe le plus respectueux possible, notre r\u00f4le est avant tout de prot\u00e9ger ces animaux, cette technique tout en les respectant nous permet d\u2019avoir cr\u00e9\u00e9 avec eux une empathie commune, ils sont tr\u00e8s sensible \u00e0 notre approche en conscience et nous le rendent bien en s\u2019approchant sans crainte de notre bateau chaque fois qu\u2019ils en ont l\u2019occasion. ne quittent pas leur \u00eele tout au long de l\u2019ann\u00e9e.\u2028 En Guadeloupe, nous avons 4 esp\u00e8ces de c\u00e9tac\u00e9s r\u00e9sidentes dans l\u2019archipel : <br>Trois en Basse Terre, des dauphins tachet\u00e9s pan tropicaux, environ 100 individus r\u00e9partis en deux familles. Nous avons \u00e9galement des dauphins de Fraser, une cinquantaine d\u2019individus et des grands cachalots, environ 100 individus r\u00e9partis en plusieurs familles de 5 \u00e0 12 individus. <br>Une en Grande Terre, entre la r\u00e9serve marine de Petite terre et les Saintes, il s\u2019agit du grand dauphin commun, ou Tursiop Truncatus, estim\u00e9 \u00e0 environ 35 individus, il vient parfois en Basse Terre, du cot\u00e9 de Baille Argent pour chasser le balaou en Mars ou Avril.<\/p>\n<h2>Les cachalots<\/h2>\n<img
