Created in 2012 by Pierre Lavagne de Castellan, the Guadeloupe base was for 4 years his \u00ablaboratory\u00bb for <\/span><\/span><\/strong>research and development of approaches that respect large cetaceans. <\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

Today it has become an independent cetacean observation base, run by Nael, who was trained by Pierre Lavagne de Castellan, and is still used to provide vital information to the Shelltone Whale Project research center. \u00a0<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

All year round, you can observe the magnificent cetaceans that live year-round off Baille Argent: sperm whales (which are whales), spotted dolphins, bottlenose dolphins and Fraser's dolphins. There are also pilot whales, pseudo-orcas, beaked whales and even the occasional orca, among others, as there are over 20 species of marine mammals living in the Agoa sanctuary on Guadeloupe's leeward coast. <\/strong><\/p>\n

Humpback whales can be seen from January to mid-May, with March and April being the best months to observe them.<\/strong><\/p>\n

You are welcomed on board to share passion for cetaceans<\/strong>\u00a0and navigation at sea.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Every time out<\/strong>, the captain uses a hydrophone (underwater microphone)<\/b> and deciphers the sounds heard in the sea: whale songs, sperm whale codas, dolphin and pilot whale whistles. These sounds, heard live, help him decide which way the boat should go to give himself the best possible navigation. the best chance of observing animals while respecting their behaviour<\/b>\u00a0during the meeting.<\/p>\n
